The Oslo Philharmonic can trace its roots to the era of Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen and became an institution in 1919. Since 2015, they have enjoyed a creative partnership with LAWO Classics, a critically acclaimed Norwegian independent record label. Their latest recording on the label was released in October 2019, the second in their series of recordings of Richard Strauss’ orchestral music.
Together with their Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko, the orchestra tours regularly internationally, and in October 2019 the Oslo Philharmonic will celebrate their 100th anniversary with an eight-concert European tour visiting Cologne, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Vienna, Ljubljana, Udine, Torino and London.
In October 2018 the Oslo Philharmonic announced that Klaus Mäkelä will be their new Chief Conductor from the 2020/21 season.
