Hideko Udagawa’s latest album for Russian label Northern Flowers celebrates rich legacy of Russian music with world premieres and rare works for violin and piano
12 Jan 2021
Japanese violinist Hideko Udagawa studied with virtuoso Nathan Milstein who was her only teacher in the West, and she has inherited the Russian romantic tradition of playing. She has performed extensively throughout the world including with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in the UK. She has previously recorded on Signum Records, Chandos, Nimbus Records and also on Northern Flowers.
Her new recording on Russian label Northern Flowers includes world premiere recordings of little-known works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, alongside works by Stravinsky and Shostakovich among others. Hideko Udagawa sourced the scores, including the lesser-known discoveries, from all over the world and has put the programme together with the help of transcriber V. Mikhailovsky. The recording is due for release on 9 April 2021.
