Melvyn Tan has a reputation as a versatile keyboard player who has travelled to the origins of his instrument to rediscover it. Internationally recognised as a leading exponent of the fortepiano, Tan has celebrated early music repertoire with numerous major period instrument orchestras and performers, including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Philharmonia Baroque, the Academy of Ancient Music, Veronique Gens and Anne Sofie von Otter.

Tan has also performed as a concerto soloist with such prestigious ensembles as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin’s in the Fields, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

In April 2016, Melvyn Tan joined the Bruckner Orchester Linz on their debut UK tour, followed by the world premiere of a new solo work by Jonathan Dove at Cheltenham Festival (9 July). Tan marked his 60th Birthday in October with a special recital at Wigmore Hall and a recording released on Onyx in September. Entitled ‘Master and Pupil’, the disc explores the works of Beethoven, Czerny and Liszt.

Melvyn Tan’s new recording ‘Miroirs’ is due for release on Onyx in April 2019.
