Alexander Joel

Alexander Joel is renowned for the great integrity in his approach to a remarkably varied range of operatic and symphonic repertoire. Famed for his ability to coax a striking array of tonal colours and textures from orchestras, he has also attracted critical acclaim for his fluidity of phrasing, rhythmic flexibility and way of shaping large-scale musical structures.

In the 2018/19 season, Joel is set to make his house debut at English National Opera with Puccini’s La bohème and will also return to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, for a revival of Tosca at the end of the season.

2017/18 saw Joel conduct David McVicar’s production of Rigoletto at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, a new production of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, a new production of Korngold’s Das Wunder der Heliane at Opera Vlaanderen, and Puccini’s Tosca at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm.
